Gill Jackson, BA Hons., MA, CIPD Associate, SMACCPH

Therapeutic Counsellor, Psychotherapist, Accredited Mentor, and HR Consultant

I studied Counselling and graduated back in 2007 in the beautiful city of York. Since then, I have had a varied and wonderful career across health and social care directly supporting people with mental health issues and teaching others to do so.

I always volunteered as a therapist alongside my paid work because of my passion for helping others. In 2020 after redundancy from a teaching role I decided to take the leap into private practice full time.

Since then, my practice has gone from strength to strength, and I utterly love what I do. As a busy working mum of three having my own business fits nicely in with family life.

I specialise in working with adults (16+) with anxiety and depression, this can often include difficulties around stress, low mood, low self-esteem, anger, addictions, chronic pain and relationship problems.

I also work with couples who struggle to communicate and often are experiencing difficulties around trust.

I have a keen interest in neurodiversity (ADHD, Autistic Spectrum Disorder etc.) and although it isn't technically my specialism many of my clients happen to be neurodivergent, plus I have significant personal experience in this area.

My approach as an integrative therapeutic counsellor means I can pick and choose the best bits of various types of therapies to better meet my client's needs. I listen to my clients and hold space for them in a supportive way. I also often set homework and I'm not afraid to gently challenge when needed.

I am happy to be as creative (or not creative) as you like in the therapy room as I have a very flexible approach. I want my clients to feel comfortable so if you need to stand during our sessions carry on, if you need to eat or drink that's fine too. If you want to go for a walk, we can. I am probably the opposite of the therapist you may imagine, you wont find me sitting behind a desk in a suit writing down notes!

The sessions were really everything I needed – I have felt better for a long time now and it’s nice to know that Gill is always there if I feel I need help again.

I found it was easy to talk to Gill about anything and would certainly recommend her to friends in the future and if I have further problems I would return.
